What's the difference between the Ping Feature and the Monitor Feature? General
Monitor is for detection — reliable HTTP uptime checks with 3-check confirmation. It tells you “something is wrong” without false alarms.
Ping is for troubleshooting — 40+ globally distributed probes across 7 cloud providers tell you “here's where and why.”
You get both features in every plan, and they're automatically chained: the moment Monitor confirms 3 failed checks, our Ping network fires across 40+ probes and attaches a situation report (regions affected, routes, response codes) to the incident in your dashboard. Your engineer opens the alert and the forensic evidence is already there.
Is the Specialist plan really free forever? General
Yes. No credit card required, no trial countdown, no surprise charges. You get 5 monitors (5-min intervals), 3 Flex slots, and 3 Donated slots. It's a real plan for real use — not a teaser. Many of our customers stay on Specialist forever, and that's fine with us.
Can I really add my own server as a probe? General
Yes. Install the PingForce agent on any Linux server you control. You decide whether to keep it private (only your account uses it) or donate it to the community (everyone benefits, you earn extra Donated Slots).
Most monitoring services lock you into their probe locations. We figured your network is yours.
How fast are your alerts? General
Under 60 seconds from failure detection to alert delivery on paid plans (1-minute check intervals). The 3-check confirmation rule adds a brief verification window — we'd rather alert you in 60 seconds about something real than 30 seconds about a flapping connection.
What happens if I cancel? General
You drop back to the free Specialist plan — your data stays intact, your monitors keep running (just at 5-min intervals), and you can upgrade again anytime. No contracts, no cancellation fees, no “talk to retention.” One click, done.
How long is my monitoring data kept? General
Daily summaries are retained for one year on all plans, so you always have your historical uptime, incident, and response-time trends. Hourly rollups are kept for shorter windows depending on your tier — Captain and above retain more granular data for longer.
Is PingForce secure? Where is data stored? General
Data is stored on AWS (US West) with encryption at rest and in transit. We don't store your application data — only monitoring metadata (URLs, response times, status codes). Probe agents are open-source and only outbound; no inbound connections to your infrastructure.
Do I need to install anything? Business Owner
No. PingForce is 100% cloud-based. You paste your website URL into the dashboard, we handle the rest. There's no software to install on your servers and no code to add to your site.
How will I know when my site is down? Business Owner
You pick. We support email, SMS text messages, Slack, Microsoft Teams, and webhooks (for integrations like PagerDuty). Most business owners use email plus SMS. We alert the moment we confirm an outage — usually within 1–3 minutes.
What's the difference between the Free plan and paid plans? Business Owner
The free Specialist plan gives you 5 monitors at 5-minute check intervals — great for getting started or monitoring a small site. Paid plans get you 1-minute intervals (faster detection), SMS alerts, status pages you can share with customers, and more monitors. Most business owners start with Captain ($15/month) for serious coverage.
Can I share status with my customers? Business Owner
Yes. Captain tier and up include public or password-protected status pages. Show your customers real-time uptime and incident history — builds trust and reduces support tickets when something is wrong.
Will I get false alarms in the middle of the night? Business Owner
No. We require 3 consecutive failed checks before opening an incident. The moment we open it, our global probe network fires automatically across 40+ locations and attaches a situation report to the incident in your dashboard — regions affected, routes, response codes — so when you check the alert, the proof is already there. A single network blip from one probe won't wake you up.
Can my developer use this too? Business Owner
Absolutely. Captain tier includes 1 child account for your developer or ops person. Major tier includes 2, Colonel includes 5. They get their own login with permissions you control (read-only or read/write).
What happens if I cancel? Business Owner
Cancel anytime — no contracts, no calls with sales. Your service stays active for the rest of your current billing cycle, then automatically reverts to our free Specialist tier. You keep your account, your monitor history, and 5 free monitors forever.
