Slots Explained

Three kinds of slots. Here’s what they mean.

Slots only apply to the Ping Feature. Monitors don’t use slots — you get a fixed monitor count per tier.

Flex Slots

Your everyday testing capacity.

Use Flex slots for any on-demand ping test from our 40+ probe network. They’re the slots you’ll use 99% of the time. Run a 20-probe traceroute? That’s 20 Flex slots, all returned when the test completes.

Captain: 15 slots

Private Slots

Your own probes, only visible to you.

Deploy probes on your own infrastructure (internal network, branch office, specific cloud region) and they consume Private slots. Useful for testing things only you can see — like an internal staging environment or a specific egress point.

Captain: 3 slots

Donated Slots

Contribute a probe, earn slots back.

Deploy a community probe on your own infrastructure and contribute it back to the shared network. PingForce rewards you with Donated slots — extra capacity for your testing in exchange for expanding the network for everyone.

Captain: 10 slots

Worked Example

You’re on Captain. Here’s how slots work in practice.

Your Captain plan includes: 15 Flex / 3 Private / 10 Donated = 28 total simultaneous probe slots

You deploy 2 private probes in your AWS us-east-1 and a branch office in Singapore. → That’s 2 Private slots in use. 1 Private slot left.
You contribute 1 community probe running in your Hetzner box in Frankfurt. → You earn 1 Donated slot back (now have 11 total Donated). Network coverage improves for everyone.
A customer reports slowness from Brazil. You run a 25-probe traceroute from the shared network. → 25 Flex slots in use during the test (you have 15 — so the test queues 10 and runs in two batches automatically).
Test completes. All Flex slots return. You’re back to 15 Flex available.

Slots are real-time capacity, not monthly quota. They free up the moment a test ends.

Earn Slots Back

Help the network. Get rewarded.

Run a community probe on your own infrastructure (any cloud, any datacenter, even a Raspberry Pi at home) and contribute it to the shared PingForce network. You earn Donated slots — bonus simultaneous-test capacity — for every probe you contribute. The more reliable and globally distributed your probe, the better the reward.
